As an End of Life doula, I provide emotional, spiritual, and physical support during an intensely personal, intimate, crucial time in one's life journey. I help remove fears, help organize and prepare for what's to come, provide answers, resources and support for just about anything needed. The primary purpose is to be there along the way however I can be helpful. It's okay to be afraid, or to struggle with complex emotions. Navigating the end of life experience can seem overwhelming and confusing and that is totally natural, but you are not alone. Do you need to figure out a will and advance directives (living will)? Do you want more information about funeral/burial options? Do you need to find good resources for household care, respite, shopping, etc? Maybe your loved ones are in conflict about medical options and personal wishes and you need help resolving. Or perhaps you are the patient and don't have family around for support; You might just want the comfort of having a loving and supportive friend on-call to be there and hold your hand when the time comes. Call or email me; Let's talk and customize a plan that meets your needs.
Grief is a transformative experience. We are not the same people after experiencing grief, which can be multi-layered with guilt, trauma, or other complexities. I utilize a coaching approach that will leave you feeling more empowered and grounded, and better able to process the rest of your own life as you live with your grief. No, it never goes away entirely...But together we can definitely help get you to a better place. I am happy to meet with you one on one in person or virtually via Zoom, or invite you to sign up for a group session (dates TBD) where you will share your journey with others going through similar times, in a safe and nurturing space. In talking about our grief, we take back some of the control we feel we've lost. We feel supported by community, friendship, and the bonding of shared experiences.
I love providing educational outreach on all aspects of end-of-life care. There is an endless amount of information to process about hospice and palliative care, living arrangements, Death with Dignity (also referred to as physician-assisted suicide), and legal choices available by state. There are also a lot of options available now beyond the traditional concepts of casket burial or cremation. I am particularly enthusiastic about alternative and eco-friendly options, but am very knowledgeable about traditional practices too. Many people are deciding these days to have a ceremonial experience that is more spiritual than religious, or otherwise tailored to be meaningful to them specifically.
For medical staff, I also provide training opportunities on how to talk to patients and their families about death and dying. I recognize that these hard conversations are not taught in medical school and therefore many practitioners (including those who are not physicians) are too uncomfortable to be transparent and truthful when confronted with awkward and emotional questions.
